The cleanest air in the world is not Natural: It is in the Cleanroom

--

It is not the Tasmanian air; it is not at the most remote places on earth as well. The cleanest air in the world is in the cleanroom of a medical or a research facility. Trust this statement, this is not fiction but the absolute truth. Why? Simply because the world ceased to realize the importance of a healthy environment. Instead, they started creating an environment where the chances of falling ill or getting infected increased significantly.

You may be wondering what is a cleanroom? Well, to put it into simple words, a cleanroom consists of nothing but purified air. Everything is nice and clean and taking into consideration today’s environment it is probably the cleanest air you will ever breathe in your life. Equipped with HEPA filters these cleanroom setups are void of microparticles, organic and unwanted matter.

There is no use of a cleanroom where you don’t have a workstation to carry out important tasks. For that, there are cleanroom equipment to ensure that fumes and small particles do not disperse into the work environment. What all help a cleanroom to become the cleanroom are a lot of special-purpose cleanroom equipment:

1. Fume Hood: It is a ventilation device designed to limit exposure to harmful chemical gas and fume, vapour and dust. It also offers protection to the test products by limiting the open area for access. The functionality is simple, a filter-based exhaust system prevents the circulation of fumes. With internal lighting, there is no issue of low-light situation.

2. Laminar Air Flow: Primary function is to protect the test sample from the user. That doesn’t mean that the user is also protected. The design is for protection of test matter and that’s where no unintended particles go. One of the major issues pertaining to use of laminar air flow is that it can lead up to medical conditions due to exposure to UV radiations.

3. Biosafety Cabinet: Safely work with pathogens in an enclosed section wherein the pathogens are to be treated under a defined biosafety level and for that you need a custom section which are known as Biosafety cabinets.

4. Pass Box: Test materials like chemicals, organic compound and pathogens are required to be moved safely. There must be 0% chance of contamination of the test item. Failing which, there chances of incorrect results increases substantially and will offer a wrong report. For this, a pass box is used which prevents and secures the test item from spilling and being contaminated.

5. Air Shower: To put it into simple words, its chamber in which air is blown from all ends in a tangential motion which literally frisks the body of the entrant and removes dust and other particles from clothes and exposed skin of the entrant. These are primarily used at the entry and exit points.
